Like all other Stephanie Garber novels before it, The Ballad of Never After has absolutely bewitched me.
This sequel held me in a chokehold from start to finish, and gave me all the Evangeline and Jacks TLC I've been craving since the release of book one. Getting to experience the slow blossoming of their friendship (and maybe romance) was so swoony, and I really just could not get enough. Stephanie Garber has a way of writing so lyrically, and this was only amplified during those quiet, meaningful moments between Jacks and Eva.
Though I've always held a soft spot for Tella, Evangeline is currently seated at a very close second. All the Garber girls are written in a way that you just can't help but cheer them on, and this is especially the case when it comes to the ever hopeful Eva.
If she hadn't done so before, Stephanie Garber has officially cemented herself as one of my favorite fantasy writers. There are so many twists, turns, curses, and romance that make every scene magical, and though I can't say whether there will be another book in this series or not...I will say that I hope to see more of Jacks and Evangeline soon!
Tragically whimsical, romantic and positively poetic, The Ballad of Never After is sure to enrapture fans of Once Upon a Broken Heart.
